Thursday, February 3rd

Spent most of the daylight hours not doing much.

After dinner, we headed to my cousin Vera and Marc's in Camarillo, for an evening of entertainment.  One of the clubs to which they belong is called the "New York" club.  Originally started to band together folks that moved to California from the Big Apple, it has relaxed it's restrictions to include anyone.

Where they reside is a gated 55+ community with some great amenities.  The recreation facility where the show was being held was a modern venue with about a 500 person capacity, complete with sound system and jumbo screen.  There is also an 18 hole golf course, pools, activities and manicured lawns in front of the ranch style homes.

This evening's entertainment was a New York native singer named Jerry (I apologize for not catching his Sur Name).  In Karaoke style, Jerry had his selections loaded onto an I-Pod plugged into the house sound system and performed songs from the Rat Pack.  Surprisingly, it was a very entertaining evening.  There was even coffee and pastries served after the performance.

There is no mistaking the fact that this is a retirement community.  Hey, with a name like Leisure Village...well!  The residents were even joking about it.  The program was 45 minutes long.  A time they found to be the maximum amount endurable before they needed to use the rest rooms.

Now for us, as we quickly approach the beginning of our 6th decade on this planet, it was good to feel like the "kids" in the group again.
